Cody Detwiler, a YouTuber with more than 10 million subscribers on his channel, has been arrested on suspicion of evading more than US$ 400,000 in taxes.

According to a report by The New York Post, the 27-year-old content creator is facing two felony tax-evasion charges related to sales tax on a 2020 Ferrari F8 Tributo purchased in January 2023.

The vehicle is the same Ferrari F8 that the influencer filmed being destroyed in a fire in a field, in an August 2023 video titled: “The fastest way to lose half a million dollars. My Ferrari is gone.”

He stated in the video that the sports car “was reduced to a pile of ashes” in an “accident” that was captured in a professional, highly produced video. The video has already received more than 16 million views.
Detwiler and his company, WhistlinDiesel LLC, “unlawfully attempted to evade or defeat any tax due to the state of Tennessee in the amount of US$ 500 or more,” according to the indictment dated November 5, obtained by the channel WSMV.

The YouTuber was arrested and booked into the Williamson County Jail in Franklin, Tennessee, last Wednesday, according to court records, and was released the same day after posting bail.
He shared a video of his arrest on Friday, while asserting his innocence. “Yes, I was arrested and it’s 100% true. Six police officers showed up at my door and said they had an arrest warrant for Tax Evasion,” Detwiler said.

“I’ve always paid all my taxes and still don’t know the reason for all this. I didn’t receive any prior notice,” he added in the post. He is now scheduled to appear in court next Wednesday (19).
