Ford has officially ended production of the Focus, one of the American automaker’s most beloved hatchbacks.

The company closed this chapter with the construction of the last Focus unit at its Saarlouis factory in Germany last Friday (November 14).

“I can confirm that the last Focus was produced on Friday, November 14. It was a five-door white hatchback,” said Volker Eis, Ford Europe corporate communications manager, to Motor 1.

One car for the museum, one for the staff. The rest: history – and applause for the time spent with Ford at the Saarlouis site. An emotional day for thousands of employees – and a moment Saarlouis will never forget. (Video: Private)♬ Original Sound – Blaulichtreport Saarland

The end of the Focus comes a few months after the last sporty ST rolled off the production line on September 26. Production of the Fiesta ended in 2023, while the Mondeo ended a year earlier, and the long life of the Ka also came to an end in 2020.

Now, with the end of the Focus, Ford no longer has any “regular” cars in its portfolio, which now consists solely of commercial vehicles and SUVs. Last year, Jim Farley, Ford CEO, explained why the automaker decided to discontinue so many iconic cars.

The answer is simple, according to him: Ford simply wasn’t making enough money from them. In an interview with Car Magazine, he explained that profit margins were too small to justify further development, even considering the cars’ reasonable popularity.

“We’ve always competed in the heart of the passenger car market, which didn’t work out very well for the Mondeo, Focus, and Fiesta. They were loved by many customers but never justified a bigger capital investment – unlike commercial vehicles,” Farley told the outlet.
