STM officially launched in Istanbul the first corvette of the LMS Batch-2 program intended for the Royal Malaysian Navy.
Named “TUNKU LAKSAMANA ABDUL JALIL”, the ship represents an important milestone for the Turkish defense industry and also Turkey’s first export of corvettes to the Asia-Pacific region.
The project is part of a government-to-government agreement signed between Turkey and Malaysia in 2024. According to STM, the schedule progressed rapidly after the steel-cutting and keel-laying stages, allowing the launch of the first vessel less than two years after the contract was signed.
The Turkish company plans to launch the other two corvettes later in 2026, with deliveries expected by 2027. The ships were specially developed to meet the requirements of the Malaysian Navy and will feature modern combat systems, radars, electronic sensors, and the ATMACA anti-ship missile produced by ROKETSAN.

With a length of around 100 meters and a displacement of approximately 2,500 tons, the vessels will be capable of carrying out surface warfare, air defense, and electronic warfare missions. The corvettes also feature a stealth design, a hangar for medium-sized helicopters, and endurance of up to 14 days at sea.
