Teledyne Gavia has completed the delivery of the first of four GAVIA autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs) to Sweden’s Defence Materiel Administration (FMV), ahead of schedule and within budget.
The shipment is part of a multi-year agreement signed between the company and the Swedish authority to strengthen the underwater operational capabilities of the country’s Armed Forces.
The new systems will be integrated into the modernization process of the Swedish Navy’s fleet, expanding submerged surveillance capabilities and improving efficiency in strategic missions. The project also includes a technical support and maintenance model developed in partnership with FLIR Sweden, ensuring continuous assistance to the equipment throughout its operational lifecycle.
Globally recognized in the unmanned underwater vehicle segment, Teledyne Marine maintains production facilities in the United States and Iceland and has already supplied thousands of autonomous systems to NATO and AUKUS navies. Its track record includes more than 12,000 APEX floats, 1,275 Slocum gliders, and Gavia AUVs acquired by 18 naval forces worldwide.

Thanks to GAVIA’s modular architecture, the vehicles can be quickly configured for different missions, such as mine countermeasures, hydrography, intelligence data collection, seabed mapping, and surveillance. For the FMV, the delivery represents an advance in the incorporation of autonomous technologies that will enhance Sweden’s underwater operational capability in the coming years.
