With a 1300 cc boxer engine, 145 hp, and a more aggressive look, the new generation of the Bavarian sports bike arrives with a focus on performance and sportiness.
BMW Motorrad has confirmed the presentation date of the highly anticipated R1300R: it will be on April 10 at 5:00 PM (German time). The model is the direct successor to the R1250R and brings a series of mechanical, technological, and visual updates.

Although complete official images have not yet been released, a teaser reveals sportier and more aggressive lines compared to the previous generation. The new bike shares the same 1300 cc boxer engine as the R1300GS, with 145 hp at 7,750 rpm and 149 Nm of torque at 6,500 rpm, surpassing the 136 hp and 143 Nm of the previous model.
Among the confirmed technical highlights are the ShiftCam variable valve timing system and the new frame with stamped steel profile structure, replacing the old tubular trellis frame. The rear subframe is now bolted in cast aluminum, a solution also adopted on the R1300GS.
In terms of suspension, the front uses an inverted telescopic fork, while the rear maintains the Paralever system with a central shock absorber and cardan. The standard seat height will be 81 cm, with five options available. The total weight, with the 17-liter tank filled to 90%, will be 239 kg.
Other confirmed specifications include:
- Wheelbase: 151 cm
- Caster angle: 62.5°
- Suspension travel: 140 mm (front) / 130 mm (rear)
- Rear tire enlarged to 190/55 ZR 17
The new R1300R distances itself even further from the touring concept and focuses on a sporty look. Equipment such as the center stand and luggage supports are expected to be no longer standard, reinforcing the dynamic focus.
Expected standard features include:
TFT display with smartphone connectivity
Keyless Ride start system
An optional highlight will be the Automated Shift Assistant (ASA), which allows for automatic gear changes or clutchless shifting – a feature inherited from the R1300GS. The rear radar with blind-spot alert is not expected to be available on this version.
The official price has not yet been revealed, but it is expected to start at around 16,000 euros, based on the current R1250R pricing (from 15,500 euros).
After the launch of the R1300R, BMW is expected to reveal the next members of the new boxer generation: the R1300RS and R1300RT.
