Volkswagen has officially unveiled the ID. Polo, its new compact all-electric hatchback, which arrives in the British market with a starting price of £23,945.
As reported by Car Magazine, the model is part of the True Volkswagen strategy, led by CEO Thomas Schäfer, which aims to make the brand’s electric vehicles more appealing to the public and restore consumer confidence in the ID lineup.
The ID. Polo was developed to compete with models such as the Renault 5, Nissan Micra, Hyundai Inster, Kia EV2, and Cupra Raval. Although its name refers to the German manufacturer’s traditional hatchback, the electric model will be sold alongside the version equipped with a combustion engine, which will remain in production.
Measuring 4.05 metres in length, the hatchback uses the new front-wheel-drive MEB+ platform and makes efficient use of its interior space. According to Volkswagen, the boot has a capacity of 441 litres, more than a Golf, while rear-passenger space has also been increased.
Inside, the manufacturer has brought back physical controls following criticism of the first models in the ID family. The steering wheel now features only conventional buttons, the climate-control system gains dedicated controls beneath the infotainment screen, and the volume control once again uses a rotary knob. The ID. Polo will be offered with two battery options. The entry-level version uses a 37 kWh battery, available with 114 hp or 133 hp motors and a range of up to 328 kilometres.
The higher-specification version receives a 52 kWh battery and a 208 hp motor, allowing it to travel up to 455 kilometres on a single charge. Volkswagen has also confirmed that a sporty GTI version will be launched later in 2026.
Sales in the United Kingdom begin on July 30 with the special Launch Edition, while the complete lineup will be available from September 10. The most affordable version starts at £23,945, while the range-topping Style trim costs £31,745.
