A video recently released on Telegram reveals a Russian military innovation that involves adapting a naval rocket launcher for land use. The equipment, dubbed “Frankenstein“, combines the RBU-6000 rocket launcher, originally designed for anti-submarine warfare, with a multi-purpose armored vehicle chassis MT-LB.

The adaptation was carried out by the artillery division of the Volunteer Assault Reconnaissance Brigade “Nevsky”, belonging to the Russian Armed Forces. The RBU-6000 launcher, also known as “Smerch-2”, features twelve barrels arranged radially and is designed to combat enemy submarines and torpedoes.

The decision to repurpose the RBU-6000 for land operations, according to military sources, is due to a lack of suitable land weapons and an excess of naval weapons. Mounted on the MT-LB chassis, the launcher has an effective range of 5.2 kilometers and can fire a shot every 2.4 seconds, providing significant quick-response capability in land conflicts.
