This led to the evacuation of 148 passengers and five crew members after the Airbus 320 was towed back to the gate.

A passenger, Ivan Paloalto, who recorded the incident, told Storyful that he heard an explosion just before the aircraft was about to take off. The footage he captured shows dense smoke coming from one of the plane’s wings.

The FAA temporarily suspended arrivals at Chicago airport, one of the busiest in the country, especially during one of the year’s busiest travel weekends. Operations resumed normally at 2:45 PM.
