The Security Service of Ukraine (SSU) announced the successful interception of an Orion strike drone, considered the largest Russian UAV ever downed by Ukrainian means.

The operation was carried out by the special group “Alpha,” using a drone that struck the front part of the Orion, a critical area where the control and communication systems are located. Although there is no visual confirmation of the complete destruction, the action represents a milestone in drone air defense.

The interception video also shows the downing of two Forpost-R tactical drones, as well as attacks on armored vehicles, artillery systems, Russian positions, and logistics depots. In two weeks, the special unit claims to have destroyed hundreds of targets, including 16 tanks, 21 armored vehicles, 75 artillery systems, 22 air defense systems, and 80 enemy drones.

The Orion, developed by the Kronstadt group, is a medium-sized UAV with up to 30 hours of endurance and a payload capacity of 200 kg of guided munitions, including missiles and air-dropped bombs. Since the start of large-scale war, only nine of these drones are said to have been lost.

In May, Ukrainian drones are also said to have hit the Russian factory where the Orion model and the new Banderol cruise missile are assembled.
