Rostec has released rare images showing the operation of the universal bridge-layer MTU-90M, one of the most specialized assets in the arsenal of Russia’s engineering troops.

Developed by the UralVagonZavod group, the vehicle is employed in combat and emergency scenarios when it is necessary to quickly overcome obstacles such as ravines, anti-tank ditches, or watercourses.

The MTU-90M uses a three-section folding bridge made of high-strength steel, measuring 20 meters in length and with a load capacity of up to 60 tons. The gap between the girders is closed by panels, allowing the passage of both tracked vehicles and wheeled vehicles. In addition to military use, the system can also be employed in rescue operations and civil defense.

According to Rostec, the video shows unconventional scenarios for the use of the equipment. In one scene, the MTU-90M creates an access ramp near a burning building, allowing specialized vehicles to approach the fire source. This capability makes it possible, for example, to deploy automated firefighting systems into areas considered too dangerous for direct human intervention.

One of the main advantages of the MTU-90M is speed: the bridge deployment time is about two and a half minutes. The vehicle’s protection level is equivalent to that of a main battle tank, and the entire operation can be carried out without the crew leaving the cabin. The compartment is fully sealed and equipped with protection systems against radioactive and chemical contamination, allowing the equipment to be used even under enemy fire or in highly degraded environments.

These characteristics make the MTU-90M an essential asset for ensuring force mobility during rapid offensive operations, while also expanding its usefulness in support, rescue, and disaster response missions.
