Porsche revealed that the Cayenne EV 2026 will support wireless charging, a feature already widely used with smartphones.

The announcement was made on Thursday (4th) at the IAA Mobility fair in Munich, Germany. According to Porsche, the new wireless charging setup only requires the user to park the car over a black mat, which can be installed in the garage.

The system includes a floor plate and a vehicle-mounted plate. The floor part is air-cooled, while the plate mounted under the vehicle is liquid-cooled.

It is worth noting that the plate is integrated into the entire vehicle structure, so it is safe to assume that Porsche will not adapt this technology to its existing electric vehicle lineup anytime soon.

According to Porsche, the plates work like a Wi-Fi router, so once you get the code and pair them for the first time, you won’t need to worry about it again.

The system is fully integrated with the MyPorsche app, so all the information you might need can be accessed on your smartphone.

While wireless charging is already quite popular for smartphones, this is the first time the feature comes to an electric car as a factory option. However, it is not the first time the technology has been considered.

In 2019, BMW launched a pilot program in the U.S. for an induction charging system compatible with its 5 Series plug-in hybrid. However, the project was only a limited test and not a production or regular commercial offering.
