Mercedes-AMG has unveiled its newest high-performance electric concept: the GT XX Concept, a super sedan with 1,340 hp, a top speed of 360 km/h, and a system that simulates the sound of a V-8 engine.

The model previews the brand’s first 100% electric production vehicle, scheduled for release in 2026. The goal is to move past criticisms received by previous hybrid models, such as the four-cylinder C63, which was technically advanced but considered uninspiring.

Shown at a former power plant in Germany, the GT XX is a prototype that, despite racing seats and five-point harnesses, features technologies considered ready for the brand’s upcoming electric models. Built on an 800-volt architecture, the car has batteries that can recharge 400 km of range in just 5 minutes. The drivetrain is powered by three electric motors — two at the rear and one at the front — totaling 1,340 hp, surpassing the Lucid Air Sapphire but still behind the Chinese Xiaomi SU7 Ultra.

Inside, there are custom seats molded with foam shaped from the customer’s body scan, plus finishes made from recycled racing tires. The sound experience is also a highlight: the car emits a synthetic V-8 roar through speakers embedded in the headlights. Mercedes bets on futuristic details such as fluid paint on the side skirts, a yoke-style steering wheel, and paddle shifters to simulate gear changes.

Despite regulatory and commercial challenges, such as 25% tariffs in the U.S. and fierce competition from China, the German brand promises to keep the AMG spirit alive in the electric era.
