Three years after revealing its first concept, Jeep has finally announced the Recon for 2026 at the 2025 Los Angeles Auto Show.

The Recon is Jeep’s first electric vehicle designed for real off-road use, launched as a Trail Rated model. It features cutting-edge engineering beneath the body and two motors for all-wheel electric traction.

Inside, the Recon blends design elements from the latest Compass and Wagoneer S models, with a robust steering wheel, a large infotainment screen, digital instruments, and a central console that includes switches for the Selec-Terrain drive modes.

The manufacturer is offering several accessories for the Recon, including a modular rail on the dashboard that can be used to mount cameras or navigation devices, and even a spot for your rubber duck, celebrating a trend among Wrangler owners who gift other drivers with personalized rubber ducks.

Beneath the body is the STLA Frame architecture, a body-on-frame platform developed by Stellantis engineers to support multiple powertrain options for trucks and larger 4×4 models.

The Recon includes a 100 kWh battery on a 400-volt architecture, providing a claimed range of around 400 km on a single charge. It is worth noting that the battery is protected by reinforced steel to prevent damage to the underside of the body.

The Moab variant, which will be available in the North American market, features two electric motors, one for each axle, delivering a combined power output of 640 hp. Jeep claims the acceleration time from 0 to 100 km/h is 3.6 seconds.

The Recon, along with the Wagoneer S, marks Jeep’s return to the D-segment in the European automotive market, a segment that is about 50% composed of battery electric vehicles.

Fabio Catone, head of Jeep in Europe, stated that the Recon is “inspired by the legacy of the Wrangler and will bring electric driving to the great outdoors. It’s a 100% Jeep 4×4, but 100% emission-free.”

Still, Jeep executives are keen to emphasize that the Recon will not replace the Wrangler in Europe. “The Wrangler will remain our icon, especially in terms of off-road performance,” said Fabio Carli, Jeep‘s product marketing head in Europe, to Car Magazine.

“The Recon will undoubtedly be a competent option, but more geared towards the everyday user – someone who enjoys off-road adventures, but not as much as a Wrangler buyer. Globally, we see the Recon as a complementary offering to the Wrangler because it is electric.”
