Lexus unveiled a customized Lexus IS 350 in collaboration with visual artist Alex Alpert during EXPO Chicago, in an initiative that blends design, visual arts, and the lifestyle universe.

The collaboration marks the first activation of a year-long partnership between Lexus and Alpert. Throughout 2026, the artist will take part in major cultural and lifestyle events such as NYCxDesign and Art Basel, where he will create live paintings on the hoods of the Lexus IS 350 in front of the public.

According to Lexus, the goal was to reinterpret the IS 350 not only as a performance sedan, but also as a cultural expression tied to design and creativity. Sam Wintermyer, Lexus general manager of marketing, said the collaboration with Alex Alpert made it possible to view the model through a bold artistic lens, creating something that preserves the brand’s identity while also connecting with the contemporary art scene.

Alex Alpert’s work brings his signature line art style to the car, with graphics inspired by hand-drawn illustrations that follow the lines, cuts, and contours of the bodywork. The result creates a visual effect that “flattens” the vehicle’s three-dimensional surfaces, in a playful concept inspired by automotive culture, craftsmanship, and lifestyle.

For the artist, the project expands the possibilities of where art can exist. Alpert highlighted that, with Lexus, the vehicle becomes both a canvas and a platform, bringing the creative process directly to major cultural events.

The customized hood also features a series of symbolic illustrations tied to Lexus values and the brand’s Japanese heritage. Among the elements represented are references to craftsmanship precision, hospitality, refined engineering, performance, and smooth driving. Together, these details build a visual narrative that celebrates both the spirit of the Lexus IS 350 and the imagination behind its design.

According to the automaker, the initiative also reinforces Lexus’ vision of the IS 350 as a versatile platform, capable of naturally moving across different cultural territories—from design and art to lifestyle experiences. The debut of the customized model at EXPO Chicago clearly highlights this brand positioning.
