The agreement includes an initial order worth 2.1 billion Swedish kronor (approximately US$ 210 million), with deliveries scheduled between 2026 and 2030.
According to Saab, the order includes RBS 70 NG firing units, missiles, and training equipment. The system was developed to detect and engage short-range aerial threats such as aircraft, drones, and missiles.

“Saab continues to support the Latvian National Armed Forces with a strong ground-based air defense capability, which will significantly enhance their critical ability to detect and counter aerial threats,” said Görgen Johansson, head of Saab’s Dynamics business area.
The RBS 70 NG is the latest version of Saab’s portable air defense line, equipped with automatic target tracking and integrated night vision. The system can engage targets at distances of up to nine kilometers and altitudes above 5,000 meters, operating in challenging battlefield conditions with high resistance to interference.
Saab highlights that the NG (Next Generation) variant builds on decades of operational experience and incorporates updated technologies to address today’s evolving threat landscape. The system is widely used across Europe and has been exported to over 19 countries.
The acquisition is part of a broader effort among NATO’s eastern flank countries to modernize their air defense capabilities amid ongoing security concerns in the region.
