An attack using Iranian-made drones hit an airport in the Autonomous Republic of Nakhchivan, a territory of Azerbaijan located between Iran, Turkey and Armenia.

Videos published on social media show the moment the drone approaches, whose engine produces a distinctive sound similar to a moped, followed by a strong explosion in the airport area.

According to initial information, at least two drones of the Shahed type reportedly struck the region of Nakhchivan Airport. One of them fell directly on the airport terminal, while another hit an area near a school in the village of Shakrabad. The explosions caused damage to the airport infrastructure and left two civilians injured.

The government of Azerbaijan officially confirmed that the attack originated from the territory of the Islamic Republic of Iran. In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs classified the episode as a violation of international law and warned that the action contributes to rising tensions in the South Caucasus.

The incident occurred one day after Azerbaijan placed its armed forces on heightened alert and reinforced its military presence on the border with Iran. Baku demanded immediate explanations from Tehran, as well as the opening of an investigation into the case, and stated that it reserves the right to adopt appropriate response measures.
