Chinese automaker GAC, through its division Govy, unveiled the AirCab—its first flying vehicle intended for commercial production—at the Hong Kong Auto Show.
The model is an eVTOL, that is, an electric vertical takeoff and landing vehicle, designed for short urban trips. With a capacity for two occupants, the AirCab has a range of 30 km per charge.
Made of about 90% carbon fiber, the AirCab emphasizes lightness and energy efficiency, while also offering greater safety in case of failure. The battery can be recharged quickly, going from 50% to 100% in just 15 minutes, and reaching a full charge in 25 minutes.
In terms of design, the model stands out for its modern look with a glass cockpit, exposed rotors, and short wings, while the interior features cutting-edge technology, including 5G connectivity, AI assistant, and personalized control of sound, scent, and temperature.
GAC has also incorporated a triple-redundancy safety system in key areas such as flight, communication, and power. The AirCab is already on pre-sale in China for around USD 223,200, and in just 24 hours, nearly a thousand people have expressed interest.
The first passenger tests are expected to take place in 2025, with deliveries scheduled for 2026, depending on regulatory approval.
