BAE Systems has taken another step toward expanding its presence in Poland by signing a memorandum of understanding with Wojskowe Zakłady Motoryzacyjne (WZM) and H. Cegielski-Poznań (HCP).

The goal is to assess the local production of the M88A2 Hercules armored recovery vehicle, while also expanding the country’s capacity to maintain and support this military equipment.

The new partnership expands the cooperation launched in 2025 between BAE Systems and WZM, which already included maintenance and modernization work on the M88A2. With the addition of HCP, a company specializing in industrial manufacturing, the project gains greater production capacity and strengthens Poland’s defense industry by combining manufacturing expertise with technical support capabilities.

According to BAE Systems, the agreement reinforces its strategy of developing industrial capabilities in allied countries, allowing Poland to gain greater autonomy in maintaining its armored vehicles.

Representatives of HCP, meanwhile, said the initiative could transform the city of Poznań into an important production and maintenance center for armored platforms, boosting job creation, technology development and specialized expertise.

The M88A2 plays an essential role in supporting the M1 Abrams tanks operated by the Polish Army. Equipped with a more powerful engine and reinforced armor, the vehicle can recover armored vehicles weighing up to 70 tons in combat areas.

Poland has already acquired hundreds of Abrams tanks from the United States, making the expansion of its maintenance and recovery infrastructure a strategic element in ensuring the readiness of its fleet.
