After more than 25 years in the compact car segment, Ford will end production of the Focus hatchback later this year, with the closure of its Saarlouis plant in Germany.

However, the Focus name may soon return—this time as an SUV, according to a report by Autocar.

The new model is expected to be a mid-size crossover, built at the Valencia plant in Spain, which has a production capacity of 300,000 units per year.

Although it will be similar in size to the Kuga (known as the Escape in the U.S.), the Focus SUV will be sold alongside it and will offer hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and fully electric powertrain options, utilizing the C2 platform used in models such as the Bronco Sport, Maverick, and the European Kuga.

Ford already has experience reviving classic nameplates in new segments, as it did with the Capri and Puma—now one of the best-selling electric SUVs in Europe. If the new Focus follows the path of the Kuga, which sold over 105,000 units in 2024, the SUV could quickly gain popularity in the European market and become another hit for the brand.
