Babcock International and Supacat have announced a new partnership to compete for the Light Mobility Vehicle (LMV) program, a British Army initiative aimed at replacing the traditional Land Rover Defender vehicles used by the land forces.
The companies signed a Memorandum of Understanding that expands the cooperation initiated during the recently completed Jackal 3 program and reinforces their goal of developing a solution fully supported by the United Kingdom’s industry and supply chain.

To meet the competition requirements, Babcock developed the General Logistics Vehicle family, based on the Toyota Land Cruiser LC70 platform. The project includes different configurations, such as medium-wheelbase, long-wheelbase, and utility versions, offering flexibility for a wide range of military missions. The collaboration with Supacat seeks to combine the two companies’ experience in the development and manufacture of defense vehicles.

According to Babcock, the new proposal is intended to provide the British Army with a light vehicle that combines reliability, safety, ease of maintenance, and reduced operating costs. The company also emphasizes that the program will strengthen the national defense industry, preserve specialized jobs, and increase the participation of British small and medium-sized companies in the production chain.

Supacat highlighted that its long-standing partnership with Babcock had already produced positive results during the development of the Jackal 3 and believes this experience will be an advantage in the competition for the new contract. The LMV program seeks to fill the gap left by the withdrawal of the Land Rover Defender from operational service by providing the British Army with a light, compact vehicle capable of meeting the demands of modern operations.
