China’s People’s Liberation Army recently carried out a maritime exercise with amphibious armored vehicles belonging to a brigade of its ground forces. The activity took place in a coastal area in southern Fujian Province, in the east of the country.

Images released by Chinese military media show the armored vehicles advancing in formation across the sea, firing at vessels used as targets and at positions set up on land. The maneuver simulated a coordinated operation involving approach, encirclement, and neutralization of targets in different environments.
According to China Military, the training aimed to assess the units’ ability to operate in an integrated manner, as well as to verify the accuracy of weapon systems during amphibious operations.

Weather conditions increased the complexity of the activity. With strong winds and high waves, the vehicles showed constant lateral and longitudinal rocking, making it difficult to stabilize the weapons and track the targets.
To compensate for the motion caused by the sea, the crews had to identify the intervals between the crests and troughs of the waves. These brief moments of greater stability were used to fire with greater accuracy.

During the exercise, the armored vehicles navigated at high speed and carried out coordinated attacks against the target ships. At the same time, the crews used machine guns and other systems installed on the platforms to hit objectives positioned along the coastal strip.
The operation also assessed factors such as communication between vehicles, formation navigation, target identification, and fire coordination. These capabilities are considered essential for amphibious units, which must transition between maritime and land environments while maintaining mobility and operational capability.
Amphibious armored vehicles combine characteristics of vessels and land platforms. After crossing maritime stretches, they can reach the beach and continue advancing on land, transporting troops or providing support to landed units.
