Volvo is reportedly preparing a more comprehensive update for the XC60, its best-selling vehicle globally, just one year after the launch of the facelift for the 2026 model. The information comes from Automotive News.
According to the report, the main new feature should be in the T8 plug-in hybrid version. The SUV could receive a significantly larger battery, increasing its all-electric range to around 160 km, a major leap compared with the 56 km currently estimated by the EPA.

If this information is confirmed, the model would surpass rivals such as the Mercedes-Benz GLC 350e, which currently offers around 87 km of electric range.
In addition to the mechanical changes, the XC60 is expected to receive a new look. Camouflaged prototypes seen testing in Europe suggest slimmer headlights, a redesigned grille and styling elements inspired by Volvo’s future electric lineup. The interior may also adopt technological solutions aligned with the future Volvo EX60 electric SUV.

The update would be more extensive than the one carried out for the 2026 model year, which brought only subtle changes, such as a new front grille and a larger infotainment display. Volvo is apparently seeking to keep the XC60 competitive in one of the most contested segments of the premium market, while preparing a new generation for the end of the decade.
The report also highlights that production of the XC60 in the United States is expected to begin in January at Volvo’s plant in South Carolina. The facility already produces the electric EX90 and Polestar 3 models and is expected to play an important role in the brand’s strategy for the North American market.
