A British YouTuber named Harley Perkins caught attention on social media by taking his Tesla Model Y, originally valued at around $70,000 at the time of purchase, to a used car buying service in the UK.
The goal was to find out how much the vehicle would be worth after a year of use. Perkins had paid $71,300 for the car and, even with less than 15,000 miles on it, was surprised by the appraisal result.
Upon visiting WeBuyAnyCar, a company specializing in buying vehicles from the general public, he found out that his Tesla was worth only $37,200 — nearly 50% less than the original price.
The store employee explained the steep depreciation by classifying the car as “Grade 2” due to minor imperfections on the bodywork, stating that only flawless vehicles receive a “Grade 1” rating.
