The YangWang U9 Xtreme reached a top speed of 496.3 km/h, securing the title of the fastest electric car in the world and the fastest car in the world overall, according to Car and Driver.

The electric 4×4 is capable of going from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.36 seconds.

The U9 Xtreme is produced by BYD and features four motors, one in each wheel, capable of generating 2,959 hp using a 1,200‑volt system.

The motors are equipped with 80 kWh BYD Blade batteries which, combined with dual 800 V charging, are capable of reaching up to 500 kW.

The hypercar has scissor‑type doors, a low and aggressive stance, thin LED headlights, and a huge rear wing paired with a deep, intricate diffuser, plus many carbon fiber details.

The cockpit of the YangWang U9 Xtreme is crafted from leather and Alcantara, with ambient light strips dividing passenger areas, and dominated by a large vertical touchscreen in the central console.

Yangwang asserts that these configurations allow for precise torque vectoring on all four wheels, claiming that the U9 delivers “maximum safety, performance and experience.”

German driver Marc Basseng was behind the wheel when the vehicle achieved the speed record and said that the feat attained by the U9 Xtreme “is not possible with an internal combustion engine.”

“Thanks to the electric motor, the car is silent, there are no load changes, and it allows me to focus even more on the track,” said Basseng.

Yangwang confirmed that it will produce up to 30 units of the U9 Xtreme.
