Yamaha has announced a new special motocross lineup to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the founding of Yamaha Motor Company, which took place on July 1, 1955.
Unlike the 50th anniversary editions launched in 2024, which celebrated half a century of the YZ line, the new models pay tribute to the brand’s origins as an independent company from Nippon Gakki, with a design inspired by Yamaha’s first racing motorcycle, the YA-1, nicknamed the “Red Dragonfly.”
The YA-1 marked Yamaha’s debut on the racetrack, winning its first two races back in 1955 and establishing the company’s sporting reputation. The new red and white design of the 70th anniversary editions revives this racing heritage, evoking the iconic style of the 1970s and 1980s—an era of great prominence for Yamaha in motorcycling.
The commemorative editions will begin arriving at dealerships in October, with the following suggested retail prices in the United States: YZ450F at $10,499, YZ250F at $9,099, YZ250 at $8,299, and YZ125 at $7,399.
The lineup is expected to appeal to both collectors and off-road enthusiasts, who can now choose between the classic look of the 50th anniversary edition or the historical vibe of the new 70th anniversary series.
