China claims to have developed a new military transport aircraft capable of surpassing the traditional C-130J Super Hercules of the United States in several technical aspects.

Known as the Y-30, the model is part of a new generation of medium-sized aircraft and, according to Chinese analyses, shows significant advances in overall performance.

The project, led by Shaanxi Aircraft Industry Corporation, carried out its first test flight in December and is already drawing attention for its characteristics. Equipped with four turboprop engines, the Y-30, also referred to as Y-15, was designed to offer greater power, improved payload capacity, and structural enhancements compared to its American counterpart.

According to the specialized magazine Aerospace Knowledge, affiliated with Beihang University, the new Chinese model surpasses the C-130J in areas such as avionics, materials, and flight control systems. The U.S. aircraft, however, still holds a slight advantage in operational range and stands out for its long track record and versatility in special missions.

Despite Chinese confidence in the new project, the C-130J remains a global benchmark in military transport, with decades of service and participation in critical missions — including recent rescue operations. The Y-30, still in its early stages, will need to prove its performance in practice to establish its position on the international stage.
