The Huajiang Grand Canyon Bridge was built over the Beipan River at about 625 meters from the canyon’s base. It was officially inaugurated on September 28.
The bridge structure took about 3 years and eight months to be completed. Residents of Guizhou Province, who previously took two hours to cross the canyon, can now make the journey in just two minutes.
The construction has a length of 2,980 meters and a main span of 1,420 meters, with the strength to withstand large flows of vehicles and people moving across it.
The bridge will also help promote local tourism, as access to tourist attractions such as the Huangguoshu Waterfall has become easier.
Visitors will be able to visit the bridge towers via a high-speed elevator that leads to the observation deck with a panoramic view.
The structure also offers bungee jumping from the bridge or walking on a glass walkway at 580 meters high.
