Qantas airline’s Project Sunrise will introduce the world’s longest flight, with an Airbus A350 capable of connecting Australia, the United States and the United Kingdom on direct journeys that could last up to 22 hours.

To support the long journey, economy class has gained a revolutionary advantage designed to provide passengers with greater comfort. In a virtual tour of the new aircraft, Qantas showed that a shelf has been added to the seats to hold travellers’ personal devices.

This way, passengers can say goodbye to neck pain caused by looking down while trying to watch something on a tablet resting on the lowered tray table.

The shelf, positioned below the 13.3-inch entertainment system and above the retractable tray table, gives passengers a much better position to watch their pre-downloaded movies and TV shows if they do not like the options provided by the airline.

The inaugural Project Sunrise flight is scheduled for 2027. “All major structural components [are] now installed, including the fuselage, wings, tail, landing gear and engines,” Qantas said last month.

“From next year, these aircraft will carry our customers non-stop from Sydney to London and New York for the first time, cutting flight time by up to four hours.”
