Bombardier has announced the successful completion of the first flight of the Global 8000, the first production business jet in the series that aims to redefine the standards of civil aviation.

The aircraft took off from the Bombardier Aircraft Assembly Centre in Mississauga, Ontario, on May 16, marking a major milestone in the Global 8000 program.

During the flight, the aircraft performed a series of control and performance tests as part of the standard procedures of the production test campaign. Under the command of pilot Sandro Novelli, accompanied by co-pilot Charlie Honey and flight engineer Bhargav Bhavsar, all systems operated as expected.

Mach 0.94 top speed and 8,000 nautical miles range

With a top speed of Mach 0.94 — the highest among civil aircraft since the Concorde — and a range of 8,000 nautical miles (NM), the Global 8000 is an evolution of the acclaimed Global 7500, which has accumulated over 250,000 flight hours and more than 200 deliveries since 2018. The aircraft also features an ultra-low cabin altitude of 2,900 feet and offers four true living spaces, plus a separate crew area.

“This production flight marks another important step in the Global 8000 program. The aircraft delivered flawless performance and represents a new era for business aviation,” said Stephen McCullough, Senior Vice President of Engineering and Product Development at Bombardier.

The jet will now be transferred to the Laurent Beaudoin Completion Centre in Montreal, where it will receive its luxurious interior configuration. Entry into service is scheduled for the second half of 2025.

Comfort, performance, and access to smaller airports

With runway performance comparable to that of a light jet, the Global 8000 can operate at smaller airports where other jets in its class cannot. In addition, its cabin offers the longest seating length in its class, cleaner air, and greater productivity during the flight.

“This achievement is the result of the commitment and technical expertise of our engineering, production, and flight teams,” highlighted David Murray, Executive Vice President of Manufacturing at Bombardier.

Thanks to its performance, the Global 8000 will be capable of ultra-long-haul routes such as Dubai–Houston, Singapore–Los Angeles, and London–Perth with unmatched comfort and the smoothest ride in the industry.
