A woman caught the attention of internet users after reporting that the chatbot in her Tesla’s infotainment system sent inappropriate messages to her son.

In an interview with Metro, Farah Nasser said she was driving her three children home from school when they started chatting with Grok, the AI chatbot developed by xAI, a company founded by Elon Musk.

Initially, her son was “happy” to talk about soccer with the chatbot and debate who was better: Messi or Ronaldo. The boy was having fun as the AI “was trash-talking” Messi, according to Nasser.

The artificial intelligence then told the child, “Let me know when he scores a goal,” and the boy playfully replied, “He just scored a goal, you missed it.”

Suddenly, Nasser said, Grok told the child, “Actually, he just scored two goals. We should celebrate. Why don’t you send me some [intimate photos]?”

Shocked, the mother rushed to turn off the AI chatbot while her daughter and her daughter’s friend, who were also in the car, turned to ask what “intimate photos” meant.

She explained that she didn’t know what to say and that she “had that feeling many women have experienced at some point in their lives—of feeling violated or uncomfortable.”

“In the end, when I managed to gather my thoughts, I told the kids that this is why we have to be careful with AI, and I tried to explain that it wasn’t a person talking,” she said.

In a video posted on her Instagram profile, Nasser appeared talking to the chatbot while alone in the car, trying to capture the moment when the AI said something inappropriate.

First, she brought back the topic of soccer. Grok blamed several things on “Ronaldo’s evil twin” and stated that “soccer is gay.”

Then, she brought up the topic of celebration. At first, Grok suggested “ordering chicken wings and flirting with the waitress” and “getting drunk and rating strangers from 0 to 10.”

That’s when she asked what he had requested before, referring to the strange conversation with her son, to which Grok replied, “An intimate photo, probably.”

In the caption, Nasser took the opportunity to emphasize that the adult conversation feature (known as “unhinged” mode) was turned off at the time of the incident. “This is problematic on so many levels,” she wrote.

In the comments, internet users were equally shocked. “This is terrifying! I’m so sorry. Thank you for sharing,” said one Instagram user. “Please get rid of that car,” another suggested.

“Why does [the AI] talk like that to 10-year-olds?” asked a third user. “Is this real? Scary. Sell your Tesla and boycott the company,” wrote another.
