A TikTok user reported being robbed during a transaction on Facebook Marketplace.
The young woman, identified as Dswizzle, said she arranged a meeting to complete a sale, but the supposed buyer approached the car, took the item, and ran away. “I was selling something. The guy came to my window, put his hand over me, grabbed it from the center console, and ran away“, she explained in the comments.
The incident went viral on social media, with internet users sharing similar experiences of scams and robberies on online buying and selling platforms.

In the comments, other victims shared similar situations. A former delivery driver shared that he was robbed while working and had his car taken by the thieves, while another person mentioned losing $800 in a fake rental scam. One user even recalled being robbed while trying to sell a pair of sneakers. Many commented that the video triggered fear and made them reconsider the safety of meetings arranged through Marketplace.
Given these risks, Facebook itself advises users to meet in public, well-lit places, avoid sharing personal information, and use the “plan a meetup” feature on Messenger, which allows users to send details to a third party. The platform also recommends bringing your phone, having police contacts on hand, and avoiding carrying large amounts of cash.
In cases of robbery, the recommendation is to contact authorities and report the buyer or seller directly through Marketplace.
