She was in the car with her daughter Zoey Marzonie when they spotted a huge lizard. Zoey wanted to get closer to film the animal, but her mother warned her: “No, stay in the car”.

When Renee saw the tongue of the animal sticking out, she realized she had been mistaken. “It was very exciting, I had never seen anything like it before, but the concern is what this is doing to our native wildlife,” she said.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission suspects it to be a Malaysian monitor lizard, a type of lizard that inhabits Southeast Asia. As it is not native to Florida, the species poses a risk to the local fauna.

It is believed to have been kept in captivity as a pet and escaped or was released. It does not pose direct risks to humans, but they attack when they feel threatened.
