Volkswagen has unveiled an interesting concept for an electric SUV version of the Jetta, which is expected to arrive on the Chinese market in 2028.

According to Motor1, the German automaker revealed the concept ahead of the Beijing Auto Show, which begins this week in China. This time, Volkswagen is betting on an electric SUV version of the Jetta, one of its most well-known passenger cars.

The vehicle is expected to enter the Chinese market to fill the gap left by the withdrawal of models from the Czech brand Skoda, a decision made by Volkswagen following a sharp drop in sales.

In addition to the Jetta X, Volkswagen will also present four other new energy vehicle (NEV) concepts, but the electric Jetta will be showcased at the Beijing Auto Show as a preview to build excitement ahead of its launch.

For now, the automaker has not released additional details about the vehicle, but has already confirmed that the Jetta X will be fully electric. According to Motor1, Volkswagen also suggested that the model will be part of a new design language called “Modern Robust“, which will become standard for all future Chinese-market Jettas.

As this is a China-exclusive vehicle, it is expected that the Jetta X will feature a simplified interior with a user interface filled with screens. Andreas Mindt, head of design at the VW Group, has already revealed the concept’s interior on LinkedIn, showing a large touchscreen paired with a smaller display for the passenger.
