Volkswagen revealed three new electric vehicle concepts at the 2025 Shanghai Auto Show, all developed exclusively for the Chinese market: the ID. Era, the ID. Evo, and the ID. Aura.
The models were created in partnership with FAW, SAIC, and VW Anhui, reflecting the automaker’s focus on catering to local preferences, with an emphasis on sophisticated design, more interior space, and advanced technology features.
These concepts are part of the strategy “In China, for China“, emphasizing the company’s commitment to one of the world’s most important automotive markets.
The concepts introduce innovations in electrification and automation. The ID. Era is a large SUV with three rows of seats, equipped with a combustion engine that acts as an autonomy extender, adding up to 1,000 km of total range. The ID. Evo, aimed at a young audience, uses a modern electronic architecture with an 800-volt platform. Finally, the ID. Aura, a compact sedan, is the first to use the new CMP platform, with integrated AI and a smartphone-inspired interface.
Volkswagen plans to incorporate automated driving systems with artificial intelligence in these future models, aiming to achieve Level 2+ operation by 2026. Additionally, the brand intends to launch over 30 new vehicles by 2027, with 20 classified as “New Energy Vehicles (NEVs)”, including fully electric, plug-in hybrid, and range-extender models.
