Volkswagen will end production of its last convertible model in a few years, bringing an end to an era of convertibles that began with the Beetle.

The VW Group is preparing to cease production of the convertible T-Roc by mid-2027. The model, which replaced the convertible Eos, is being manufactured at the Osnabrück plant.

In fact, VW still doesn’t know what to do with the factory located in western Germany once production of the T-Roc Cabrio ends. Currently, the company is exploring “options for a different use of the site.”

VW’s plan seems to be to simplify its portfolio, so the T-Roc is not the only model affected by the automaker’s decision, which also includes the Passat sedan, leaving only the wagon version in Europe and other markets.

According to Motor 1, the Polo may also be retired to make way for the electric ID.2 hatchback, although the gasoline-powered supermini will remain for now.

With the end of production for several models, VW is also cutting many jobs. By the end of the decade, the company’s workforce is expected to be reduced to just 35,000 employees.
