With a distinctive appearance, the German automaker’s new gamble will hit the European market in 2024 and will have two versions, both with rear-wheel drive: a model with 210 kW (285 hp) and a version with 240 kW (326 hp).
“Think of it like the Golf GTI and GTI Clubsport. Initially, we had the 210kW version, but then we found a solution that allowed us to go up to 240kW. Here, we’re doing some things we’ve never done before with a GTX model,” said Claas-Lennard Stöhr, product manager ID.3.
The GTX’s major differentiator is that the more powerful ID.3 models only have rear-wheel drive after this advancement in electric motor technology.
“The X in the GTX doesn’t specifically mean all-wheel drive, it’s the body design and dynamic capabilities. And this car [the ID.3 GTX] is like a love story for the Golf GTI,” added Stöhr.
Both models feature a new 79 kWh battery and can charge up to 175 kW DC, and both generate 545 Nm of torque at their peak.
The ID.3 GTX reaches a maximum of 178 km/h, while the more powerful ID.3 GTX Performance hits a maximum of 190 km/h. However, Volkswagen claims a maximum range of 372 miles (approximately 600 km) is possible.
