Volkswagen unveiled the Golf GTI Edition 50 during the 24 Hours of Nürburgring to celebrate 50 years of its iconic hot hatch.
The special edition, which will begin production in 2025, will be the most powerful GTI ever made, with a 2.0 turbo engine delivering 321 hp and 42.8 kgfm of torque, surpassing the traditional Clubsport. The brand plans to deliver the vehicles to customers in early 2026, half a century after the launch of the first GTI.
Besides the power boost, the model received technical upgrades such as adjustable suspension (DCC), recalibrated front differential, and more precise steering. The optional “GTI Performance” package offers lower suspension, lighter Bridgestone semi-slick tires, and an Akrapovic exhaust that reduces total weight.
Visually, the car features the classic GTI red, with colored wheels, red pedals and seat belts, as well as checkered seats and an exclusive steering wheel with the “GTI 50” logo.
The Edition 50 also stood out on the track: it became the fastest production Golf on the Nürburgring Nordschleife circuit, with a time of 7 minutes 46 seconds. Although VW has not revealed the number of units, the edition is expected to be limited, like other commemorative versions in the lineup.
Since 1996, the brand has launched special GTI series every five years, with the Clubsport S being one of the most notable, known for its focus on track performance.
