Vietnam has unveiled its new wheeled self-propelled artillery system, the PTH-130, developed from the chassis of the Russian KamAZ-6560 truck.
The equipment, which uses a 130mm cannon, represents a step forward in modernizing Vietnam’s arsenal and was spotted in images shared by defense enthusiasts on social media.
The photos show Vietnamese technicians adapting the system, previously mounted on a Ukrainian KrAZ-255B chassis, to the KamAZ-6560 (8×8) platform, offering better mobility and durability. The cabin of the new vehicle appears to have received enhanced ballistic protection, capable of withstanding 7.62mm caliber shots, although there has been no official confirmation regarding any changes to the armament.
The PTH-130 is based on the 130mm M-46 cannon, used to target enemy positions, armored vehicles, and fortifications. It can fire fragmentation shells with a range of over 27 km and, with rocket-assisted projectiles, reach up to 37 km.
This development follows the trend of other Vietnamese projects, such as the PTH-105, which used an American howitzer mounted on a Ural truck.
