Alyssa posted a series of videos on TikTok to share that her white Toyota 4Runner was recently stolen. She last saw it in the parking lot of Hotel Indigo in Austin, Texas, on the morning of July 22.
She turned to Reddit for tips from users on how to track down stolen cars and, with the help of two friends, began an extensive search for her white 4Runner.
“We formed a search committee to go through all the places Reddit suggested we check. We were downtown, on the East Side, along [Airport] Boulevard.”
What Alyssa didn’t expect was the sheer number of white 4Runners in Austin. While one of her friends drove, Alyssa clicked her remote at every white 4Runner they passed, but none of them was hers.
“An extremely unscientific process. If anyone has any suggestions on where to look for a stolen car, I’m open to direct messages,” she told her followers.
“Apartment complexes — it’s easy to leave cars there,” suggested one TikTok user. “It’s probably already across the border by now,” warned another. “Cars these days have telematics. Ask your dealer and finance company to activate yours,” advised a third.
