A woman went viral on TikTok after demonstrating how she used a $20 repair kit to fix the windshield of her rental car, which broke after being hit by a stone.

In the video, Kat explained that, instead of spending hundreds of dollars on the repair, she decided to use the Permatex Windshield Repair Kit, a $20 kit that promises to fix the shattered glass of the windshield.

Before anything, it’s necessary to prepare the glass for the repair. The first step is to use a pin to remove the excess glass and debris from the crack, something that should be done “carefully.” Then, you need to clean the area with a cotton ball soaked in alcohol.

After that, Kat placed a red sticker around the crack. After ensuring it was properly placed, she removed the top layer before putting a gray funnel on top of the sticker.

Kat then explained that it would be necessary to pour the resin into the funnel until it was visible at the top. Then, she inserted a syringe into the funnel, which was used to remove air bubbles from the resin.

“Insert and pull up to suck the air for 20 minutes. Tap lightly to help eliminate the air bubbles and remove after 20 minutes,” Kat said in the video.

Kat then placed the syringe back into the funnel and injected air for another 10 minutes. “Remove carefully and use a blade to remove all the stickers and resin,” she explained.

“Once cleaned, use more resin to fill the cracks and place the transparent cap [over the crack] for 15 minutes in the sun.”

Once the resin dried, she used a blade to scrape off the sticker and the remaining resin from the windshield. “Don’t pull. Just scrape,” Kat warned.

To finish, Kat cleaned the area with another alcohol-soaked wipe and showed the result to the viewers. “It worked perfectly,” she wrote in the caption.

The video has already received over 6 million views. However, while many praised Kat’s ingenuity, others pointed out that the repair was purely cosmetic and didn’t address the structural damage to the windshield.

“By the way, this does nothing. It just fills the crack to hide the damage, but the window is structurally weaker, so it will break faster now,” warned a TikTok user.
