A woman caught the attention of social media users after demonstrating how a “musical road” works on a section of Route 66 in Springfield, Missouri (USA).
In a video posted on Facebook, Cave Guide Corey filmed the moment he and his wife, Shera, drove through a stretch of road featuring a kind of “musical score” embossed into the asphalt.
As they demonstrated, when a vehicle drives over the grooves at exactly 48 km/h (30 mph), the result is a segment of the patriotic song America the Beautiful, chosen specifically to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the United States in 2026.
“Every sound is vibration at different frequencies. We used that principle and turned rumble strips into music. In this case, the road literally sings,” explained Chris Hill, co-founder of Route 66 Musical Roads LLC, during the project’s launch.
Corey’s video has already received more than 4 million views and hundreds of comments from users who were excited about the attraction. “That’s so cool! It makes me want to take a road trip!” one Facebook user admitted.
“I love this! Great idea… they should do this on every road!” another commented. “This is amazing, I have to try it,” said a third user. “I kind of liked it,” another admitted.
