A woman is going viral on social media after sharing what happened to her car when she didn’t drive it for three weeks.

In a video posted on her TikTok profile, Shaghana Doyle explained that she didn’t drive her Kia for a few weeks and was shocked when she started it again after that time.

“Did you know that if you don’t drive your car for long periods, it rusts? And that can happen in just three weeks,” Doyle said in the video, issuing a warning to other drivers.

“My Kia is fine. Actually, more than fine. It was making a weird noise and I thought it was the brakes, but apparently it had rusted. The mechanic told me to drive the car more,” she added in the caption.

So, what should you do if you need to leave your car parked for a while? Experts from J.D. Power recommend taking the vehicle for a drive at least once every two or three weeks.

According to them, a drive of about 10 miles (16 kilometers) should be enough. “A short drive will do a lot to keep your vehicle running properly,” said J.D. Power.

Many things can happen when a car sits idle for too long, such as: the battery can die, the tires may go flat, fluids can dry up, gasoline can go bad, insects and other critters may invade and build nests in your car, not to mention external damage like falling branches and moisture if your car is parked outdoors.
