A video showing a Ukrainian F-16 fighter jet destroying a Russian Geran-2 kamikaze drone has started circulating on social media, according to a report by the website The Aviationist.

In the video, the Ukrainian fighter jet is seen chasing, attacking, and destroying a Geran-2 drone, the Russian version of the Iranian Shahed-136 kamikaze drone.

In the background, the sound of the M61 Vulcan in the form of the M134 can also be heard, which is effectively a scaled-down version of the gun used by the F-16 to take down the Russian drone.

Soldiers on the ground can be heard celebrating the successful attack while pieces of the drone’s debris fall through the air, seemingly in a wooded area.

This is the second time such an attack has been captured on video, although the new footage, first posted on Telegram, is the clearest so far.

Russia has extensively used the Shahed-136 drone, which it designates Geran-2, during its invasion of Ukraine. They first appeared in the second half of 2022.

Drones of this type have been used to attack critical infrastructure and military facilities, as well as civilian buildings. Recorded modifications show that some 200-kilogram drones have been equipped with anti-aircraft missiles.
