A video released this week showed for the first time the mass firing of Ukraine’s strategic “Flamingo” cruise missiles, which struck targets in Russian-controlled territory.

The footage, published by the Telegram channel Mykolaiv Vanyok, shows a triple launch at sunrise from the Ukrainian coast. The projectiles take off in sequence, propelled by solid-fuel boosters.

The existence of the new weapon only became public on August 17, when Associated Press photojournalist Efrem Lukatsky shared the first photos on his Facebook page.

According to available information, the missile features:

  • 1,150 kg warhead
  • Range over 3,000 km
  • Maximum speed of 950 km/h
  • Protection against Russian electronic warfare systems

The development process leading up to its combat debut took less than nine months, underscoring the speed of Ukraine’s defense industry in responding to wartime needs.

Scaled-up production

According to Irina Terekh, CEO and CTO of manufacturer Fire Point, the missile has already entered mass production, with an output projected at 200 units per month.

The Associated Press reported on August 21, 2025, that the current production rate is one missile per day but is expected to increase in the coming months.

On August 20, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed the success of the tests and announced that large-scale production would begin early next year. However, he warned that the pace of the program depends directly on available funding.
