Witnesses reported that the collision involved an Airbus A350 and a regional jet CRJ-900 from Endeavor Air, a subsidiary of Delta. The wing of the Airbus made contact with the tail of the CRJ-900, resulting in significant damage to both planes. Jason Adams, a meteorologist from WTFS TV who was on board one of the planes, described the accident on social media as “terrifying.” According to him, “another plane seems to have cut the back of our plane.”

According to Delta, flight DL295, bound for Tokyo, was taxiing when its wing struck the tail of flight DL5526, operated by Endeavor Air, which was headed for LaFayette, Louisiana. At the time of the collision, there were 221 passengers on board the Airbus and 56 on the CRJ-900. Fortunately, none of the occupants were injured.

In a statement, Delta said: “At approximately 10:07 a.m., the wing of an Airbus A350 taxiing as DL295 from Atlanta to Tokyo-Haneda made contact with the tail of an Endeavor Air CRJ-900, DL5526 to LaFayette, Louisiana. There were no injuries, and customers are being accommodated on alternate flights.”

The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) confirmed that the wing of one plane struck the tail of the other, causing the rear part of the regional jet to break.

Delta stated that it does not expect any further operational adjustments as a result of the incident.
