The Fırtına howitzers, which have been an essential part of the Turkish Armed Forces’ inventory and the main firepower of the ground forces, were recently upgraded with a hybrid powertrain through a collaboration between MKE A.Ş. and Anzatsan Mühendislik A.Ş. This innovation was showcased during the EFES 2024 exercise.

Successful Tests Ensure GÜRHAN’s Efficiency

Following the conversion from a diesel to a hybrid powertrain, GÜRHAN successfully passed design validation tests. Between July 23 and 25, during operational and firing scenarios conducted in Konya Karapınar, the howitzer successfully completed high-pressure and maximum range tests.

Technological Independence and Export Readiness

With this upgrade, the 155mm Fırtına howitzer, which previously relied on foreign components due to engine transmission issues, has been fully developed with national power, software, and mechanical systems. Now, GÜRHAN is ready for export, marking a new era of technological independence for Turkey.

GÜRHAN: A Technological Leap for Turkey

GÜRHAN, with its hybrid propulsion system and advanced capabilities, represents a significant leap in Turkish artillery technology. This innovation not only strengthens national defense capabilities but also positions Turkey as a key player in the international defense market.

Export Potential

With the successful completion of tests and the implementation of national technology, GÜRHAN is poised to be a significant force in the export market, bringing recognition and economic benefits to Turkey’s defense industry.
