A group of friends got into trouble after one of them sat in the driver’s seat of a Waymo self-driving taxi to see what would happen.
In a video posted on her TikTok profile, Steph showed the moment when she and her friends entered a Waymo autonomous taxi. One of them, however, decided to sit in the driver’s seat.
Shortly after, they received a call from a Waymo representative explaining that their ride would have to be terminated. “Because you are violating our terms of service, Waymo is canceling your trip. Your ride may need to be ended.”
Even with the group’s audible protests, the Waymo representative continued: “No passenger may sit in the driver’s seat of a Waymo. Have a great evening, and thank you for riding with Waymo.”
Steph’s video has already accumulated more than 4.6 million views and hundreds of comments from internet users stunned by the situation. “I feel like them putting a driver’s seat there is just setting us up for failure,” one TikTok user commented.
“So we can’t do that, but they can run red lights?”, another joked. “Why were they so mad?”, asked a third user. “Those cars should be banned,” another added.
