A video showing a BYD being charged at record speeds at a charging station in China has left internet users impressed.
Shared by Dominic Lee on X (formerly Twitter), the footage shows an electric BYD car reaching 400 km of range in just five minutes.
The footage was taken at a BYD supercharging station, the Super e-Platform, which, according to the company, is the first 1000-volt architecture produced at scale in the automotive industry.
Unlike other charging platforms, BYD‘s Super e-Platform supports a 10C charging rate, which is considered a world record, with currents of up to 1000 amperes.
For the system, BYD redesigned the internal battery structure with more efficient ionic channels, reducing internal resistance by about 50%. As a result, the platform can reduce energy loss and increase system efficiency.
According to BYD, the main goal of the system is to reduce the time it takes to charge an electric vehicle compared to refueling a conventional car, a point that could deter potential customers.
The first models with this new technology are the Han L sedan and the Tang L SUV, both already on sale in China. Beyond the Chinese market, BYD revealed that it plans to install about 300 high-power charging stations in the UK by the end of next year.
While any electric car can be charged at BYD‘s charging stations, it is important to note that only models equipped with the Super e-Platform will be able to achieve the maximum charging speeds.
