Alef Aeronautics recently announced that the Model A Ultralight, the world’s first flying car, has officially entered production phase.

The American company received the necessary certifications from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in 2023. In February of that year, the company successfully completed the first flights with its prototype.

At the time, the company released an impressive video to demonstrate the operation of the Model A Ultralight, but many people expressed skepticism, saying that the flying vehicle looked like a set of drones covered by a lightweight body.

Despite the criticism, the first units of the Model A have officially started production at the company’s factory located in Silicon Valley, California (USA). The first flying cars are expected to be delivered to customers soon.

“We are pleased to announce that production of the first flying car has started on schedule. The team has worked hard to meet the timeline because we know people are waiting. We’ve finally made production take off,” said Jim Dukhovny, CEO of Alef.

It’s worth noting that each flying car will take months to be built. Additionally, if you’re excited to have one in your garage, you may have to wait a little longer to turn that dream into reality.

This is because, according to the company, the initial production and delivery of the Model A Ultralight flying cars will be limited to a few people “with the aim of testing flying cars in a real-world environment, under very controlled conditions.”

Alef plans to train, ensure compliance, and provide maintenance for these initial few adopters. The knowledge gained from this process will support the transition to mass manufacturing and delivering pre-orders in the queue,” said Alef in a press release.

If all goes well, the cars could enter mass production for anyone who wants to buy one. Due to its revolutionary technology, don’t expect to pay a small price. Each Model A Ultralight unit will cost around $300,000.

So far, the company has already received 3,500 orders and generated more than $1 billion in pre-sales. The flying car is expected to be available for purchase as early as 2026, according to The New York Post.
