The planes were manufactured at the Novosibirsk Aviation Plant named after V.P. Chkalov. After completing the entire set of factory tests, the aerial equipment was sent to the customer.

The Su-34 bombers form an important part of the attack force of Russian front-line aviation. The aircraft’s capabilities allow for the use of advanced aerial means of attack, increase the attack range on ground and maritime targets, and improve bombing accuracy.

Developed to replace the Su-24 Fencer, the Su-34 Fullback is a long-range tactical fighter-bomber. The aircraft has its origins in the Su-27IB prototype from the 1980s and is today one of the most powerful planes in the VKS.

The Fullback, as it is called by NATO, has a payload of eight tons, capable of employing bombs, rockets, anti-radar and anti-ship missiles, air-to-air and cruise missiles, and other precision armaments. Due to the design of its radome (which houses the Leninets V004 passive electronic scanning multimode radar), the Su-34 is nicknamed duckbill or platypus.

Despite being one of Russia’s most modern aircraft, about 37 Su-34 aircraft (number not officially confirmed) have been lost since Russia invaded Ukraine for the second time in 2022.
